2018 Year in Review

Been busy busy – here is a list of events that I did last year.

Friday, March 9th: “Snake Charmers: New Orleans Female Bootleggers.” Lecture for the Bourbon Festival.Dramatic readings by actors Donald Lewis and Amanda Alch. Le Meridien Hotel (333 Poydras) 11:15am to 12:15pm. Bonus – Prohibition-style cocktail “The Bee’s Knees” will be served by Seven Three Distilling.

Thursday, June 14th: “Mrs. Officer.” Lecture about Mrs. Monahan, New Orleans first female police officer. Louisiana Cultural Vistas Summer Publication Party. Dramatic readings of historical source by Sherri Montz and Andrew Ward. New Orleans Pharmacy Museum. 514 Chartes Street. 6pm to 8pm. Free and open to the public.

Friday, August 31st: Appearance on a special tricentennial edition of Steppin’ Out on WYES/TV Channel 12 with host Peggy Scott Laborde, Susan Larson, host of WWNO Radio’s “The Reading Life;” and New Orleans Architectural Historian Ann Masson.

Tuesday, September 4th: Appearance on The Tricentennial Reading List (New Orleans Streets Part 1) with  host Susan Larson of 89.9 WWNO Radio’s “The Reading Life.”

Tuesday, September 11th: Appearance on The Tricentennial Reading List (New Orleans Streets Part 2) with  host Susan Larson of 89.9 WWNO Radio’s “The Reading Life.”

Thursday, October 18th: NOLA.com live tour of St. Louis Cemetery #2 with reporter Kevin Letten.

Tuesday, October 30th: Appearance on The Tricentennial Reading List (New Orleans Cemeteries) with host Susan Larson of 89.9 WWNO Radio’s “The Reading Life.”

Friday, November 2nd: Appearance  on Steppin’ Out on WYES/TV Channel 12 with host Peggy Scott Laborde, Susan Larson, host of WWNO Radio’s “The Reading Life;” Tim McNally, one of the founders of the New Orleans International Wine Awards; and Chef Adam Superneau of Tommy’s Cuisine.

Saturday, November 3rd: Drag Queen Story with Gayle King Kong and the debut reading of The Mermaids of New Orleans. Book signing with artist Melissa Vandiver. Hubbell Library in Algiers Point (725 Pelican Ave). 10:30am to Noon.. Free and open to the public.

Friday, November 9th: The All Saints Soiree benefitting Save Our Cemeteries. Metairie Cemetery (5100 Pontchartrain Blvd). 7pm to 10pm. Purchase Tickets.

Friday, November 9th: “Forgotten tombs of New Orleans.” Lecture for Tulane Homecoming’s Campus Book Talks. Tulane University, LBC Rechler Room (202). 3:30pm to 4:15pm. Book signing to follow.

Saturday, November 10th: Reading and book signing of The Mermaids of New Orleans with artist Melissa Vandiver. :Louisiana Book Festival. Baton Rouge State Capitol. Children’s Authors Tent 2 from 1:45pm to 2:15pm. Barnes & Nobles Bookselling Tent. 2:30pm to 3:15pm.

Sunday, November 11th: Book signing of The Mermaids of New Orleans with artist Melissa Vandiver. During the world-famous Weeki Wachee MermaidsAudubon Aquarium of the Americas (1 Canal Street) from 12pm to 3pm.

Sunday, November 11th: Book signing of The Mermaids of New Orleans with artist Melissa Vandiver. Blue Cypress Books (8126 Oak Street). Part of the Po-Boy Festival. 4pm to 5:30pm.

Wednesday, November 14th: “New Orleans 300: Cities of the Dead.” Lecture for the NOLA 300 series. Dramatic readings by Andrew Ward. New Orleans Public Library (913 Napoleon Ave). 6pm to 7:30pm. Free and open to the public.

Thursday, November 15th: Official Book Release Party of  The Mermaids of New Orleans with artist Melissa Vandiver. Elektra Cosmetics will have a certified Sparkle Specialists and a custom Glitter Buffet. Speciality Cocktail the Siren Smash. To show love for all that is aquatic and artistic – guests are encouraged to come dressed as mermaids. Vandiver will have original paintings and limited-edition Remarque prints from the book. Seven Three Distilling (301 N. Claiborne). 5:30pm to 8:30pm.

Saturday, November 24th: Arts Council’s Arts Market of New Orleans. Palmer Park. Corner of S. Carrollton & S. Claiborne. 10am – 4pm.

Saturday, November 24th:  Book signing of The Mermaids of New Orleans with artist Melissa VandiverNew Orleans Museum of Art (1 Collins Diboll Circle). 2pm to 4pm.

Sunday, November 25th: Arts Council’s Arts Market of New Orleans. Palmer Park. Corner of S. Carrollton & S. Claiborne. 10am – 4pm.

Sunday, December 2nd: Joint book signing of The Mermaids of New Orleans with Poppy Tooker signing Pascal’s Manale Cookbook. Pop-up Holiday Art Market. The Historic New Orleans Collection (533 Royal). 11:30am to 3:30pm.

Saturday, December 8th: Joint book signing of The Mermaids of New Orleans with Poppy Tooker signing Pascal’s Manale Cookbook. Octavia Books (513 Octavia). 2:00pm to 3:00pm.

Saturday, December 16th:: Arts Council’s Arts Market of New Orleans. Palmer Park. Corner of S. Carrollton & S. Claiborne. 10am – 4pm.

Saturday, December 16th: Book signing of The Mermaids of New Orleans with artist Melissa Vandiver. New Orleans Children’s Museum (420 Julia Street). 12:30pm to 1:30pm.

Sunday, December 17th: Arts Council’s Arts Market of New Orleans. Palmer Park. Corner of S. Carrollton & S. Claiborne. 10am – 4pm.
